Online forum: YOUNG FARMERS & BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

YOUNG FARMERS  & BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Agriculture Victoria is currently supporting another online forum, this time for the Young Farmers Ministerial Advisory Council (MAC).

The Young Farmers MAC advises the Minister for Agriculture on what is important to young people in Victorian agriculture.

Attracting and retaining the best young people in agriculture is a key priority for the Victorian Government. This will keep the agriculture sector vibrant, growing, innovating and moving into the future.

This is the MAC’s second online forum and the top ideas will help inform their advice to the Minister for Agriculture.

You will find explanatory text and two introductory videos at www.oursay.org/youngfarmers/business

If Link does not work, please copy the link (URL: http://www.oursay.org/youngfarmers/business) and paste it into the address bar and press enter.

Questions being asked in the forum include:
·        Why are current farm business management programs and training opportunities for young farmers under-subscribed?
·        Do you think you have the skills for what it takes to run a successful farming business?
·        If not, how do you currently upskill and invest in yourself to become a better business manager?
·        And in the future how would you like to upskill?

It is early days and the conversation will pick up as more people are engaged. The forum is open until midnight on 26 June.

Celebrating National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer week 2016

This week marks National Volunteer Week in Australia – time to celebrate all that volunteers achieve for our environment and community, and a chance also to think about getting started with volunteering if you haven’t taken the plunge yet or revisit volunteering again if ‘its been a while’!

Research from Volunteering Australia shows that 95% of volunteers say that volunteering is related to feelings of wellbeing, and a staggering 96% of volunteers say that ‘it makes people happier’. According to the research, volunteers are happier, healthier and sleep better, than those who don’t volunteer – doctors should recommend it. So if you’d like to follow this year’s theme and Give Happy, Live Happy, check out the projects below, email info@cva.org.au or freecall 1800 032 501 – we’d love your help!
